The express style of the sport-fishing boat has become popular not only because of its versatility but also because of its inherent fishability. One of the most distinguished builders of the express sport-fisherman is Gamefisherman Yachts of Stuart, Florida. With the introduction of its new 37, however, you might think you are experiencing deja vu. Although the new Gamefisherman 37 is very similar to the company's well-known 34-footer, the major difference is noteworthy - space. So if you liked the 34, you'll love the 37.
On the surface, the added length allows for additional amenities in the cabin, such as a separate shower, larger bunks, a more spacious galley and much more storage. The additional length also allows for larger engines, a more spacious bridge and, more important, a roomier cockpit.
According to Gamefisherman President Mike Matlack, the 37's increased running surface provides better handling in rough conditions. Like all Gamefisherman boats, the 37's hull is cold-molded and epoxied and features an Awlgrip finish and the signature varnished mahogany trim, but even this can be custom-ordered. All decks are nonskid, except the cockpit and bridge, normally finished in teak.
Belowdecks, the increased area provides a spacious galley work area that can be finished virtually any way desired, from varnished mahogany to custom Corian countertops. Additional amenaties include stainless-steel sinks, top-opening ice chest, storage drawers, a full refrigerator and freezer and plenty of storage, along with a mahogany dinette table. The sleeping space has upper and lower berths, while a hanging locker and cabinets in the cabin area provide additional storage.
The 37 features a full head with separate shower, and all interior floors are usually finished in teak.On the bridge, port and starboard seats feature full-length rod storage underneath. The center console steering station, finished with varnished mahogany and custom stainless hardware, provides space for electronics and instrumentation.
The large cockpit features port and starboard insulated cabinets for drinks or bait and additional cabinets for tackle and gear storage. A livewell and saltwater washdown system come standard, while a Murray Brothers fighting chair or rocket launcher rounds out the cockpit features. A Bauch tower and Rupp outriggers are also standard rigging on most Gamefisherman boats. Base power on the 37 is a set of 370-hp Cummins diesels that will provide a cruising speed of 25 knots. Other power packages are available.
